Please click image to view larger version. This groove first came to my attention when I saw Steve Jordan play it on his DVD The Groove is Here and was immediately taken by it. You'll notice that on beat 2 the right hand comes off the hihat to play a rim shot backbeat on the snare, while the left hand plays cross sticks for the remainder of the groove. Jordan plays this with a funky swung sixteenths feel and makes it feel incredible. Check out Robben Ford's Tiger Walk album for more of the legendary Steve Jordan.
